What’s it like to start your own business? It is simultaneously the most fun and the most stressful thing! Big Stick Products was born much like every other business…a bottle of moonshine, a couple of pipes loaded with some good tobacco, a campfire, and two teachers that had Big Ideas. I am pretty sure that this is almost EXACTLY how Apple and Microsoft were born…okay, more like Patagonia (another one of our faves soon to be featured in Good Humans!)
We started out with one idea, and that turned into a new idea, and then the idea grew and changed and morphed, until it became Big Stick Products…and trust me…we are definitely NOT done yet!
So, the other night, the Tinker and the Thinker put in some hours doing our usual DIY kind of thing experimenting with our TinCandles. Our IDEA is that…THE MODERN SAVAGE NEEDS CANDLES TOO…but we don’t want pretty colors in decorative glass jars with pretty smells…Nope. We need our candles Teddyfied! We took some tin cans, and covered them in a paint that EVERY man loves…BBQ GRILL PAINT…(of course it had something to do with heat and stuff, but Will is the science guy). Then we thought about the scent…of course it had to be the right scent for the Modern Savage so we picked up a few we knew we liked, Coffee, Leather, Whiskey, Tobacco and experimented.
We aren’t done exploring yet, but rest assured, when our final TinCandle’s are ready, they are going to be Quality Products! We want them to be unique, not just from other businesses, but from each other. We don’t want our stuff to look mass-produced, because it isn’t.
It’s handmade, by our hands and we intend to keep it that way!
